Overview
The UK Standard Visitor Visa allows you to visit the UK for leisure, business, or another reason (such as a short course of study or private medical treatment). You can usually stay in the UK for up to 6 months. You might be able to apply for a longer stay in certain circumstances, for example to get medical treatment.
Eligibility Criteria
- You must show that you’ll leave the UK at the end of your visit.
- You’re able to support yourself and your dependents during your trip.
- You’re able to pay for your return or onward journey.
- You have proof of any business or other activities you want to do in the UK, as allowed by the Visitor Rules.
Required Documents
- A current valid passport or other valid travel document.
- Evidence that you can support yourself during your trip (e.g. bank statements or payslips for the last 6 months).
- Details of where you intend to stay and your travel plans.
- If you're visiting for business: a letter from your employer or an invitation letter from a UK company.
Application Process
- Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the requirements for a visitor visa.
- Gather Documents: Prepare all necessary supporting evidence.
- Online Application: Complete the online application form on the GOV.UK website.
- Pay Fees: Pay the visa application fee.
- Biometrics: Book and attend an appointment at a visa application centre to provide your fingerprints and photo.
- Decision: Wait for a decision on your visa (usually within 3 weeks).

Processing Time: Usually 3 weeks for standard applications. Priority services may be available for faster decisions.
Fees: £115 for a standard visitor visa (up to 6 months). Longer-term visas (2, 5, or 10 years) have higher fees.
