Overview
The Skilled Worker Visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa. It is a points-based system where you need to meet specific requirements to qualify.
Eligibility Criteria
- Have a job offer from a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office.
- Have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered.
- Do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations.
- Be paid a minimum salary - how much depends on the type of work you do.
- Speak, read, write and understand English to at least level B1 on the CEFR scale.
Required Documents
- Your certificate of sponsorship reference number.
- Proof of your knowledge of English.
- A valid passport or other document that shows your identity and nationality.
- Your job title and annual salary.
- Your job’s occupation code.
- The name of your employer and their sponsor licence number.
- Proof of personal savings if your employer does not cover your costs.
Application Process
- Job Offer & CoS: Secure a job offer and receive your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
- Check Salary & Role: Ensure your role and salary meet the Skilled Worker requirements.
- English Requirement: Pass an approved English language test if required.
- Online Application: Apply online on the GOV.UK website.
- Pay Fees: Pay the application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
- Biometrics: Attend an appointment at a visa application centre.
- Decision: Receive your visa decision (usually within 3 weeks).
Processing Time & Fees
Processing Time: Usually 3 weeks if you’re outside the UK, or 8 weeks if you’re inside the UK.
Fees: Varies from £719 to £1,500 depending on your circumstances and the duration of your visa.
