Service Overview
Naturalisation is the legal process by which a non-British adult can acquire British Citizenship. Once naturalised, you have the same rights as any other British citizen, including the right to vote and the right to a British passport. This is a significant milestone that requires proof of good character and a strong connection to the UK.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be 18 or over.
- Must have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or "settled status".
- Must have lived in the UK for at least 5 years (3 years if married to a British citizen).
- Must meet the "Good Character" requirement (no serious criminal record).
- Must have passed the Life in the UK test and an English language test.
- Must intend to continue living in the UK.
Required Documents
- Current passport and BRP showing ILR status.
- Evidence of residence for the last 5 (or 3) years (P60s, employer letters).
- Life in the UK test pass notification.
- English language test certificate (Level B1 or higher).
- Two referees who can vouch for your identity and character.
Process Steps
